Rules for using the Physlab Workshop

  • As a general principle, the physics lab provides support to various Departments of the SSE as part of its contribution to SSE’s research vision.
  • The requester is responsible to reimburse material cost, cost of tool damages and machine damage.
  • The user of the facility is responsible for cleanup after use.
  • The physics lab support is not meant to be used for student activities, competitions and unsupervised projects even if they are part of coursework.
  • Extensive work will be entitled to being charged, especially when it involves design and drawing. Details will be discussed on a case by case basis.
  • Untrained, unskilled and novice user cannot work in the lab unsupervised.
  • Faculty led research has precedence over other jobs.
  • The facility can be used only if this form is filled and agreed upon.

Workshop of Physlab

  • The drawings of all the items manufactured in workshop are made in AutoCAD. Physlab workshop is well equipped with different types of machines including lathe.

Solenoids were constructed with copper wire on PVC and glass tubes according the requirement of experiment.

These heaters were made in house using Thermal Cement, Sodium Silicate. Nichrome springs were also constructed according to the watts required. The solution was stuffed in the steel tube to make the cartridge heater ready. Ceramic disk was used for disk heaters.


  • Copper cylinder was filed and slit was made using granding machine.
  • Plexi and Aluminum sheet was used to make all types of circuit boxes.
  • Faraday's Cylinder was made for Van de Graff Generator.
  • The experimental setup of Electromagnetic Induction was constructed with plexiglass.
  • Lead and Tin was filed for the experiment on Liquid Nitrogen.
  • Chromium was filed for the experiment of Antiferromagnet-Paramagnet Phase Transition .
  • Sample holder of Teflon was made for the experiment on | Faraday's Effect.
  • Work is under process on refractory materials.

Glass Blowing Workshop

I have attended glass blowing training workshop for two weeks at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry in University of Karachi. I worked on Borosilicate Glass and making Capillaries, Droppers, Test tubes, Joints, Side joint Aram, Bands
